The Rescate Project A Success In San Fernando, CA

By Harold Velasquez-

The San Fernando, California Rescate Project was an all-around success! That was the report from director Rev. Oscar Mendoza of the National Latino Institute for Family Enrichment –NLIFE.

On July 30, 2011 the Rescate Project was held in the parking lot of Trinity Church in San Fernando, California and sponsored by NLIFE as on outreach to Hispanic families in that community.

This took place in a city where the Hispanic population is significantly above the state average, about 92.5% according to the 2010 US Census.

Rev. Mendoza said, “We distributed all of 500 backpacks and Bibles to needy Latino families in the area.” The poverty rate in the city of San
Fernando is also above the state level at about 17.3%. Rev. Mendoza says, “The mission of NLIFE, Inc. is to improve the quality of life of the Hispanic community by providing Family Life Educational resources and services based on the unique message of hope and reconciliation found in the life of Jesus Christ and the Biblical Narrative.”

Through NLIFE’s partnership with the Rescate Project, these families were exposed to a relevant and practical model of Christ’s heart of compassion as they received a backpack, a meal and a bible.

The Rescate Project was able to not only provide the backpacks but also all the support and promotional materials needed to make this out reach an “all-around success”.

As a result of the partnership of these two organizations, 500 children in the city of San Fernando will be better prepared for the school year both physically and spiritually.
